Since Monday, when TMZ released disturbing elevator footage of Ray Rice assaulting his wife until she was unconscious, Ray, his wife Janay, Roger Goodell and the NFL have spent the majority of their days under intense media scrutiny, and it’s about to get a lot worse on Goodell’s part. Associated Press just reported that Goodell, the NFL’s Commissioner, who is already under fire for issuing an extremely lax punishment to Ray Rice upon first learning of his assault on his wife, received the startling footage TMZ released just over 48 hours ago, way back in April.

In an interview with CBS that aired in September, Goodell said, “We assumed that there was a video. We asked for video. But we were never granted that opportunity.” Well, those comments might come back to bite him. An anonymous law enforcement official admitted to AP that he sent the video–the extended version that had the entire internet up in arms on Monday–to the NFL with his contact information, back in April. While Goodell maintains that no one in the league had ever seen the video, there is at least confirmation o behalf of the sender. What happened on the receiving end of that transaction is where the investigation appears to hit a snag.
