On September 9 2014, “Concept Korea” took New York Fashion Week. This unique collaboration was meant to introduce Korean fashion overseas. The show included collections from 3 different designers. There was a full house as this diverse crowd of fashion lovers came to witness the absolutely fab collections of Korean style.

The first collection displayed was “Leyii” by Seunghee Lee. This line highlighted feminine curves and shape. In her mystically inspired line models were dressed in dark Pastel colors. Each design had several levels of detail. As the only all women’s wear collection of the collab, Leyii was a stand out. Each look is great for a night out on the town, a chic business ready look or whenever you want to make a fierce statement. The contemporary collection has a beautiful feminism tone to each piece that captures the spirit of women today.

The second collection was “Beyond Closet” designed by Tae Young. This line added a fashionable twist to your everyday school boy. Long coats, bold colors and intricate patterns were very prominent in this collection. Each piece was different than the last but kept the underlying theme. Young infuses street style to a classic preppy look that can be worn right from the runway to the hallway and back. I absolutely loved every look in this collection.

The last collection from the show was “Resurrection” by Juyoung Lee. The line is compiled of edgy-punk glam. Leather straps and gladiator inspired sandals are widely incorporated in these pieces. The Korean designer draws inspiration from non-mainstream cultures such as those that identify with hippie or goth. This menswear line easily transcends overseas and is sure to be hit for those trying to add boldness to their look.

All three designers came out at the end of the show and took a bow in unison. Though each collection was different they all stemmed from popular Korean culture and together created a great presentation. New York Fashion Week met Korean Fashion – a stylish collision of creativity. This just goes to show Fashion is universal and deeper than fabric.
