As we are 28 days away from tip-off of the official 2014-2015 NBA regular season, many organizations have opened up their training camp sessions to the media. Amongst the teams who been having interesting media moments during practices are the beloved, New York Knicks. Yesterday, former NBA 6th Man Of The Year J.R. Smith was asked about Knicks president Phil Jackson‘s comparison of him being compared to Dennis Rodman. The conventional answer would be feeling disrespected, embarrassed, appalled and upset. But in this case, the three point shooting bandit was okay with it, in fact, he was honored. Smith quoted:

Last time I checked Dennis Rodman got, what? Three-four rings [Rodman has five]. I’m not offended by that.

Given his unorthodox, skeptical and wacky attributes he displays while he’s on the court, it is pretty fair that the 11 time NBA champion would boldly come out and make such interesting comparison. Rodman played a huge role of helping the legendary Bulls teams achieve championship seasons left and right, thanks to his rebounding ability despite the colorful personality he presented to the public on and off the court. The only thing the sports and basketball world are wondering if Smith can help Melo out with the scoring load and will help lead the Knicks to playoff prominence. The Jersey product can heat up the Garden on any given night, let’s just hope that his veteran-like experience can finally be put to positive momentum to eliminate the label he has on himself as the “knucklehead with no self control at all”. Only time will tell.
