Carmelo Anthony signed a $124 million contract this past off-season to become not only the Knicks’ franchise player, but New York City’s signature athlete. Sure, New York is certainly a football town, but the Jets and Giants play just outside the confines of NYC. Baseball wise, the greatest player to possibly ever play sports in New York, Derek Jeter, just (very ceremoniously) called it quits, and the Mets, since the Jose Reyes/Carlos Beltran days, don’t have a face that looks good on billboards. The Nets are still looking to earn their keep, so that leaves Melo. Superstar NBA player, New York City born and raised, and a championship hopeful. So, it’s only right that he gets a little something special, right?

According to Nice Kicks, Melo may very well be about to receive his own version of the Air Jordan 1 shoes, much like Jeter did upon his retirement. The gold x black colorway certainly aligns with fall foliage, and sneaker heads everywhere will undoubtedly be clamoring to add this to their collection.
