Howard University, what some call the “Mecca” of historically black colleges has an even more monumental reputation when it comes to homecoming. From P. Diddy and the Notorious BIG, to Kanye and Drake, the Howard Unv homecoming legacy always lives up to the hype. This year’s events, brought to you by the university’s homecoming committee CROWN; grows anticipation as the October 13th event week and weekend approaches.

 ‘At Howard University, Homecoming is a celebration of tradition, legacy, and achievement.  For nine days we honor and celebrate those who have served within our communities, our cities, our nation and the world to make a difference.  From Thurgood Marshall to Maya Angelou, we celebrate Bison who proudly represent  Howard and use it to change the world.  Today we welcome our Bison Home.’

The event list is as always, impressive; with concerts, yardfests and step shows alike. The CROWN homecoming events include: the October 11th, Inaugural 5K Walk/Run, the October 14th 2nd Annual Pep Rally ft. Snootie Wild and BeatKing, the October 15th Entertainment Education Expo ft. Sevyn Streeter, Kim Kimble, Jamilah Lemieux, Arian Simone Reed, Karen Civil, Bille Woodruff and Caralene Robinson, the October 16th Fashion shows ft. SZA and celebrity DJ Vashtie, the October 17th International Yardfest ft. Biz Markie, DJ Quicksilva and DJ Drama, the October 17th Greek Step Show ft. Yo Gotti and Ca$hout, the October 18th, Homecoming Parade, the October 18th, the Octiber 18th R&B Concert ft. Ms. Lauryn Hill, the October 18th, Hip Hop Concert ft. Fabolous and Dom Kennedy and the October 19th Gospel Show ft. Kirk Franklin and Tye Tribbett.

In addition to the CROWN homecoming events, the weekend also has events planned for students, alumni and nearby residents as well. This year The MeccaFest is set to take place Friday October 17th, featuring Future, Jeremih, Elle Varner, Rae Sremmurd, Teyana Taylor, Black Cobain and Backyard Band.

 ‘The MeccaFest is a community event open to everyone, from local college students to those traveling to the area for 2014 homecoming festivities. This year, the MeccaFest has partnered with several powerhouses, including WPGC 95.5, DTLR, Fameus Hookah, Gateway DC, and Uber. The festival will take place at Gateway DC, an innovative and unique state-of-the-art urban open-air park.

Besides the anticipated related and unrelated Howard University Homecoming events, the nightlife celebrations always wrap up each night in just the right way. The annual friday night ‘1000 Bottles, Open Bar Experience’ party is set to once again entertain the 21+ masses that look for the ultimate after event party. Set to be held at the honorable Howard Theater, the event is sure to be a glam and celebratory event paired with an open bar and an impressive guest list. Brought to you by The Gifted Life & BE LLC, who are also throwing the buzzed about ‘Avion Tequila Brunch and Day Party’ Sunday October 19th; both events overly impress their guests. Whether you choose to celebrate within the University’s events, within the widespread community invited events or the combination of both; you can be sure of one thing; your time in the beautiful Washington, DC city will be well planned, well spent, and mostly, well remembered.
