On October 7, ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers) kicked off its sixth annual “ASCAP Presents… Women Behind the Music” series in both New York and Los Angeles.

This event honored and recognized women who are absolutely outstanding within the music community.   The New York honorees ranged from Grammy nominated singer and songwriter Jazmine Sullivan, celebrity deejay JaKissa “DJ Kiss” Taylor-Semple, and Vice Presient of Promotions at RCA, Sam Selolwane.  The Los Angeles nominees also included singer and songwriter K. Michelle, Billboard’s Senior Editor, Gail Mitchell, and Motown Record’s Vice President of Creative Relations, Myisha Brooks.  The audience at both events were treated with a Q&A with the honorees and in New York the attendees wnjoyed a live performance by Sullivan, who sang “Forever” and “Stupid Girls.”
