In an over-saturated market where independent rap acts are a dime a dozen, it isn’t too often that an artist comes along and totally blows us away, but on this blustery October day, Khary Durgans has succeeded in doing just that. The Providence, RI lyricist recently premiered his video for “The Giving Tree” via The Signal, a series of music videos curated by All Def Digital, the Amir Abbassy spearheaded brainchild of Russell Simmons and Steve Riffkind. The track, likely named after Shel Silverstein’s similarly-titled classic childhood book, boasts all the trappings of the perfect song: stellar production, smooth delivery, and clever wordplay–but most importantly, he’s actually saying something.
