Melo misses the top 10 by that much
ESPN has spent the last couple weeks of the NBA’s offseason counting down the 150 best players in the league. They’ve made quite a couple enemies out of Lakers fans–and one actual Laker–when they ranked Nick Young and Kobe Bryant at #150 and #40 respectively. Now they’ll have some explaining to do to Knick fans. ESPN unveiled #’s 15-11 today, and coming in at #11 was none other than Carmelo Anthony. Melo–who will surely have something slick to say about this when he’s asked about it by some pesky reporter–averaged 27.4 points, pulled down an average of 8.1 rebounds and dished out about 3 assists per contest last season despite missing the playoffs for the first time in his pro career. He finished second in scoring, and posted arguably the best stat line of his career since his 2006-2007 season in Denver, in which he averaged what remains his career high in points and assists. Melo finished just ahead of Joakim Noah, who claimed the 12th spot, and we’ll soon know who are the 10 players ESPN consider to be better than Melo.
