Just from listening to his music, it’s easy to tell that Flying Lotus — real name Steven Ellison — has both an eye and an ear for the eerie and mysterious. He’s indulging it in a new way in the video for his song ‘Ready Err Not,’ fresh from his latest album ‘You’re Dead!,’ which premiered early Halloween morning. The song’s always held a special place in his heart:

The video was directed by English experimental animator David Firth, most famous for the “Salad Fingers” video series and one of FlyLo’s “favorite animators of all time,” and in keeping with the Halloween spirit, it’s as surreal, disturbing, and darkly humorous as anything else Firth has made in the past. Ellison’s minimalistic synth-based production gels well with Mirth’s tale of a family that redefines the meaning of the word dysfunctional. Populated with oblong looking (and frequently naked) characters and some pretty gruesome gore effects, it’s certainly not for the squeamish and a far cry from any video FlyLo has put his name on prior. This video is definitely NSFW, or your dreams, for that matter.
