As months pass, the recovery status of comedian Tracy Morgan is still in question
Attorneys were in a New Jersey courtroom Tuesday (November 18) as litigation continues in the on going lawsuit filed by comedian Tracy Morgan against Walmart stemming from the deadly accident that occurred on the NJ Turnpike 5 months ago. A Walmart truck driver fell asleep at wheel causing a massive multi-vehicle accident. Several were critically injured in the incident, including Morgan who suffered a broken leg, nose, ribs and severe brain trauma. Fellow comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, who was on tour with Morgan at the time died from his injuries at the scene.
Though back in July Morgan’s son told the media that his father was doing well, on Tuesday his attorneys informed the press that the comedian has been making valiant efforts at recovery but it is still uncertain as to whether he will be able to fully recover based on the severity of his brain injuries.
Morgan’s Attorney Benedict Morelli:
“He’s fighting to get better, and if there’s a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he’s going to try to do that. But we just don’t know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury.”
Since the accident, not only has Morgan’s livelihood hung in the balance, but he has had to cancel several tour dates, as well as TV and film appearances. He is suing the retail giant for punitive and compensatory damages, to which Walmart has contended that the victims were not wearing seat-belts, which contributed to their injuries.
Morelli continued:
“When you have a traumatic brain injury it takes a very long time to find out how you’re going to do and how much you’re going to recover. You just don’t know. So that’s where he is. He’s still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he’s just not better. We’re hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury’s out.”
Hopefully Tracy Morgan will be able to make full recovery and get back to doing what he does best.
