According to numerous reports, Middleweight Boxing Champion Jermain Taylor was formally charged yesterday on two felony counts of first-degree battery and first-degree terroristic threatening. If convicted, the disgraced champ can face up to 26 years behind bars. Back in August, the 36-year old Arkansas native shot his cousin, 41-year old Tyrone DaWayne Hinton. Taylor told authorities that he shot his cousin in self defense due to an “unwelcome intruder in his home”.

Based on evidence yielded from the 911 phone call made by Taylor’s wife at the scene, the boxer can be heard admitting to shooting the victim as well as telling police, “better come get him before I kill him.” Through this, prosecutors in the case are rebuking Taylor’s self defense claim. In a strategic countermove, the defense attorney’s have challenged the legality of Taylor’s arrest, asking that the evidence collected from that scene be inadmissible for use in court.
