Since the controversial hearing was announced to the public last week, many celebrities, athletes and pro organizations have not been afraid to voice their opinions. Just recently, the St. Louis Rams displayed support to the protesters by coming out the pregame intro with their hands up, a act of tribute to show the protesters that they support the movement of eliminating injustice in Ferguson, Missouri and America. But in a nation where people’s beliefs and opinions would always be opposite of one another, there are individuals out there who are just sick and tired of hearing about the Ferguson incident. One person who wasn’t hesitate about expressing his opinion is former NFL football player and head coach Mike Ditka. The 3-time Super Bowl champion have released a statement in his weekly column in the Chicago Sun-Times, regarding towards the grand jury’s decision to not indict former St. Louis police officer Darren Wilson. In addition, he expressed his disappointment in the action the St. Louis Rams displayed in front of their home fans before their game against the Oakland Raiders. Ditka said this in his column:

It’s a shame this thing has come to this. The shame of it is, I’m not sure they care about Michael Brown or anything else. This was a reason to protest and to go out and loot. Is this the way to celebrate the memory of Michael Brown? Is this an excuse to be lawless? Somebody has to tell me that. I don’t understand it. I understand what the Rams’ take on this was. I’m embarrassed for the players more than anything. They want to take a political stand on this? Well, there are a lot of other things that have happened in our society that people have not stood up and disagreed about.

Ditka continued to press people’s buttons by voicing his opinion on the protesters. Not having full knowledge of the incident, the former Chicago Bears great believes that the civilians who protested in Ferguson were misrepresenting the facts of the shooting that occurred on the day Mike Brown was fatally killed.

What do you do if someone pulls a gun on you or is robbing a store and you stop them? I don’t want to hear about this hands-up crap. That’s not what happened. I don’t know exactly what did happen, but I know that’s not what happened. This policeman’s life is ruined. Why? Because we have to break somebody down. Because we have to even out the game. I don’t know. I don’t get it. Maybe I’m just old fashioned.

The former Monday Night Football commentator is not a stranger for letting people know his standpoint on things. As boisterous and affirmed as Ditka is, Mike’s popular point of view has been one of the reasons why he has such a terrific following during his life after football. But it is safe to say that his recent words may have pinched a nerve to minority who believes that justice wasn’t served properly. As America continues to fight and express their cry for change, the public could see which side Ditka is on. It will be interesting if his fan base will follow suit or go a different shotgun post route about this risky situation.
