Lifetime gets another crack at honoring a legacy
Last month, Lifetime aired an Aaliyah biopic that was met with unanimous opposition and bad reviews, but still managed to garner 3.2 million views. The film was criticized by everybody from Timbaland and Missy Elliott to Aaliyah’s actual family, and the producers–one of whom was Wendy Williams–failure to gain access to the licensing of Aaliyah’s original music pretty much meant the movie was doomed from the start.
This time around, things may be different. In Angela Bassett‘s directorial debut, Yaya DaCosta will star as Whitney Houston in a biopic aptly titled Whitney. Bobby Brown will be played by Arlen Escarpeta. The film will air on January 17th at 8pm. Watch the trailer above.
