John Wall seals the victory and dedicates it to his late friend

Yesterday’s game was going to be a tough one for the Washington Wizards regardless. They were less than 24 hours removed from taking a tough loss at the very Celtics they were about to play–last night was the second half of a home-and-away for the Wizards and Celtics–and having to squeeze in travel time, practice time and still have the energy to play hard for 48 minutes is tough for any NBA team. However, for John Wall, last night’s game was especially tough.

His dear friend, 6-year old Miyah Telemaque-Nelson, had just lost her battle with cancer hours before, and upon learning of her death, Wall was, understandably, very emotional. Well, he played his heart out. Wall finished with a career high 17 assists and 23 points, the last 3 of which won the game for the Washington Wizards in a double-overtime marathon that the Celtics appeared to have in the bag with just two minutes left in the final overtime period. However, a ridiculous finish at the rim in the final seconds by John Wall handed his Wizards–who pulled within 1 game of the Raptors for 1st place in the Eastern Conference–the win.

Shortly after the victory, during an interview with a CSN reporter, Wall could hold his emotions in no longer. He fought tears while explaining that he would be giving his jersey and shorts to Telemaque-Nelson’s family, and tweeted this ode to his brave friend after the game. May Miyah Telemaque-Nelson rest in peace.
