The kitchen most of the time is the place where you can find a solution to the majority of your ills. Many of you may have had that Big Momma, Nana, or Umi who cured every minor or major thing that you had with some home remedy. Now-a-days, society have moved away from that frame of thought and opted for more of a conventional approach to things. Well, to illustrate how versatile the simplest of kitchen ingredients can be, I am offering you some additional uses for Baking Soda that you may or may not have thought of.

  • Deodorant

Simply sprinkle some baking soda under your arms

  • Exfoliate Your Skin

Mix 3 parts baking soda to 1 part of water. Apply to the skin, rub around, and rinse once complete

  • Soften Hard Water Or Your Skin

Add 1 cup of baking soda to your bath water

  • Toothpaste

Simply brush your teeth with 1 or 2 tsps. of baking soda

  • Antacid

Baking soda can be taken as an antacid relieving both heartburn and indigestion

  • Helps With Kidney Disease

Baking soda is an alkaline substance that is naturally produced within the body that buffers acids and helps keep your pH in check.

  • Oral Health

Baking soda has been shown to increase the amount of plaque removed when brushing

  • Athletic Performance

Baking soda buffers the lactic acid that builds up in those hard working muscles, delays fatigue and enhances athletic performance.

  • Removes Oil and Grease Stains

Generously sprinkle baking soda over the stain and scrub with a wet brush

  • Cleaner Clothes

Add ½ cup of baking soda to your laundry to get your clothes cleaner and brighter

  • Fruit and Veggie Scrub

Lightly sprinkle baking soda on to a rag or sponge and wash veggies

 

Baking Soda Precautions:

  • Baking soda is high in sodium. It’s not safe in high doses and shouldn’t be used for long periods of time
  • Baking soda should be considered unsafe for nursing mothers or pregnant women unless advised by their doctors
  • Avoid drinking anything with bicarbonate of soda if you’re on a sodium-restricted diet or if you have high blood pressure, unless directed by your doctor
  • Contact your doctor if you experience swelling of the feet, weakness, slow breathing, or nausea

 

One of the amazing benefits of baking soda is that it has the ability to promote more of an alkaline PH balance in the body. Acidity is necessary for the effective digestion of food and the overall alkaline PH in your body. This is considered to be healthier because many diseases thrive in acidic environments and not alkaline ones.
