Watch Kidd Upstairs’ new video, “Buddha.”

Russell Simmons’ All Def Digital was first created as a YouTube multichannel network that would combine music, comedy, poetry, news, and art–but has recently expanded across multiple platforms, including ADD52, a website to spotlight emerging musicians.  This week their program “The Signal,” which features what we at The Source would call “unsigned hype,” is featuring a dope Oakland native by the name of Kidd Upstairs.

Currently based in Los Angeles, the songwriter, producer, and hip-hop artist has been working on his craft since he was a youth.

Kidd Upstairs released his self-produced debut, DMNDS: Deluxe  in 2012.  The project garnered him “a new and noteworthy” placement on iTunes, and much attention from the likes of Noisey, Complex, HipHopDX, and of course, The Source.  The multi-talented musical prodigy maintains a deeper level of creative control over his own projects, which can be heard throughout his records.  Most recently his single “Went Down,” produced by Hippie Sabotage, has been receiving spins in the UK on BBC Radio 1.
