20 rounds of stick motion and epic goals, now that’s blades of glory right there
Last night introduced a new definition of endurance and determination to die hard NHL fans. Having to utilize every single player on their roster, the Florida Panthers and the Washington Capitals were forced to a shootout when regulation time wasn’t enough to determine a winner.
After going 5 goals over the previous longest shootout in NHL history, Florida Panthers Nick Bjugstad scored the game winning goal on the Capitals goalie. The marathon shootout consisted of 40 penalty shot attempts, and 11 goals scored between the two squads. Lasting more than 20 minutes, both teams were even able to use some of their best shooters twice and that included the Capitals Nicklas Backstrom and one of NHL’s premier all stars Alexander Oveckhkin.

Ludacris said it best in the hit movie Hustle & Flow when he played the character Skinny Black, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog. Well in this case, the Panthers proved that they are big dogs who can outskate and outshoot with the best of them. Just ask the Capitals.
