Josh Smith was a very sought after free agent following his final season in Atlanta. Smith, one of the league’s marquee defenders and a multi-faceted offensive player that helped make the Atlanta Hawks one of the Eastern Conference’s best kept secrets, who is 2 years removed from averaging 19 points and 10 rebounds per game in his 2nd to last year as a Hawk, has been waived by the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons have been cellar-dwelling for the past couple seasons, but with a young, predominantly healthy line-up consisting of young forces like Brandon Jennings and Andre Drummond, not to mention the addition of Josh Smith, most expected them to compete for a playoff spot. Well, they aren’t, and they probably won’t, considering at the season’s first trimester, the Pistons are licking their wounds with a record of 5-23.

Early suitors for Smith include the Kings, the Mavericks and the Clippers, all Western Conference team vying for a playoff spot. We must say, a combination of Josh Smith, Demarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay would be quite enticing, especially if the Kings are able to pull off a trade for Deron Williams, which they are still discussing with Brooklyn.
