Despite all the great things that have happened for Jeremih this year–“Don’t Tell ‘Em” peaking as the #6 song on Billboard, a joint tour with French Montana–he’s still not quite where he needs to be musically, thanks in large part to his contentious relationship with Def Jam. They previously announced a November 2014 release date for Jeremih’s third LP, Late Nights: The Album, but nothing materialized. The Chicago crooner credited his on-and-off manner of releasing music and videos to a bout with timidity, and he finally released a video for “Don’t Tell ‘Em,” this week.

Still, though his bout with himself appears to has subsided, his battles with Def Jam continue, exemplified by the awkward release of his new single, “Planes.” The song was released earlier this morning, but quickly snatched off the internet–Jeremih says that version was “unfinished”–and the version he’s approved is now out for your listening pleasure. If this song sounds strangely familiar, that’s because it is. In the past, it’s featured Chance The Rapper, and Jeremih has teased the record before. Today, we get it in it’s final form.
