New Jersey Police video shows Jerame Reid raising his hands As he’s gunned down by an officer
The police dashcam of the December 30, 2014 killing of Jerame Reid, by Bridgeton, New Jersey police officer Braheme Days has been released. Days, who is an African American officer, is shown shooting Reid as he stood, with hands up, on the passenger side of a pulled over Jaguar. This appears to be another death at the hands of police. The killings of young black men in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Ferguson have ignited protests nationwide. Violence against police has caused police departments to re-examination use of force against ‘civilians’. Since Officer Days, Reid, and the man driving the car were all black this isn’t a race issue, but more of a racial profiling case. In the footage Days apparently knows Reid cause he calls him by his first name.
The Bridgeton officer who spotted a gun in the Jaguar’s glove compartment, Braheme Days, and his partner, Roger Worley have been placed on leave while prosecutors investigate the shooting. Walter Hudson, chairman and founder of the civil rights group the National Awareness Alliance, said Wednesday after footage was released:
The video speaks for itself that at no point was Jerame Reid a threat and he possessed no weapon on his person. He complied with the officer and the officer shot him.

According to the Huffington Post , the Cumberland County prosecutor’s office says a gun was seized during the stop, but gave no further comments on the investigation; while Bridgeton police never approved the release of the footage. The community is demanding the state Attorney General’s Office take over the investigation. Question is will that happen now that the footage shows the complete incident, and will the police be held accountable?
