This edition of Hood Health 101 goes into the science and healing properties of crystals.
There are many ways to find balance and replenish your energy daily. Having a medium that is safe and connects you to yourself is a wonderful thing. Hood Health 101 has previously covered the importance of knowing nature’s cycles and being in tune with them. Crystals are yet another method of accomplishing a connection with nature and yourself. Crystals are great for alignment, healing, protection from negative energies, and more. They come from the Earth itself and therefore are a part of nature. Crystals have been a part of healing processes for ages and have been utilized in various fashions from wearing the crystals themselves, being ingested as elixirs, being used in sacred rituals and everything in between. Using them has been a common practice historically for a great deal of time and as they say, why reinvent the wheel. There are a vast number of crystals that you can choose from along with plenty of sites that sell them. Due to the sheer amount of crystals I cannot go into the meanings of them all. I can however share with you some of my favorites that I have.
Quartz is a power stone due to its ability to enhance energy by amplifying, absorbing, storing, balancing, focusing and transmitting it. It also dispels negativity clearing away negative energies. Quartz can also purify and provide clarity on spiritual, mental, and physical levels. Quartz is associated with the crown chakra but it also effectively balances other chakras as well.
Amethyst is a calming stone due to its ability to provide calmness, balance, peace, and patience. It can increase your spirituality and enhance your intuitive capabilities. It also brings emotional stability and inner strength to a person. Amethyst is associated with the third eye and crown chakras mostly, but it can also open the heart chakra as well.
Carnelian is an agate that is a stone of creativity, individuality, and courage. It is said that it can also assist a person in finding the right mate. Carnelian is also good for general protection and for protection from jealousy, anger, and fear. It’s is associated with the root and sacral chakras.
When you purchase your stones caring for them is very important. You can clean your crystals by smudging them with sage, burying them in the earth (dirt), or placing them in direct sunlight for an hour or longer if you like. You can meditate with your crystals, carry them with you daily, or even sleep with them if you like. There are so many options that you can do, so have fun exploring!
