Auburn and Alabama’s rivalry has been well documented. Whether it’s Nick Saban vs Gus Malzahn in the SEC Championship game or a Saturday rivalry game on the hardcourt, there’s never a shortage of tension between these two institutions.

That was well on display last night, when the women’s basketball teams of both schools got together for a big regular season matchup on ‘Bama’s home turf. It didn’t take long for things to get frisky, and in the first half of the game, Alabama’s Breanna Hayden and Auburn’s Tiger Hasina Muhammad got into a bit of a tussle after a made foul shot. Hayden appeared to turn around and strike Muhammed in the face, and it was on. Player’s from both teams rushed over to Alabama’s bench in support of their players, and it took referees, coaches, players on both teams and about 20 minutes for the game officials to get everyone settled, and the proper penalties handed out.

Alabama squeaked out the 51-50 victory to boot, so we imagine the next time these schools matchup, tension will be at its highest.
