This coming Sunday, over 100 million men and women will tune in to NBC to watch the Patriots vs. Seahawks in this year’s Superbowl. With so many viewers, advertising companies take advantage of this time to sell products and services, but this commercial has set out to send a powerful message.

The PSA may hit close to home for some women who have experienced domestic violence, an issue that made national headlines when NFL player Ray Rice brutally assaulted his then fiancé last year.

Reportedly, the commercial, created by the “No More” campaign, is based on a true story, in which a domestic violence victim bravely called 911, pretending to order a pizza to get the police over to her house.

According to statistics, one in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Building awareness is the first step to lowering these numbers, and honest discussion is the second.
