Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Ms. Sirleaf is the first woman to be elected as president of an African state, making her the 24th President of Liberia. Prior to this, the economist and politician progressed from being the Assistant Minister of Finance to the Minister of Finance in Liberia. Ms. Sirleaf is also a Nobel Peace Prize recipient for her nonviolent work for women’s rights. Last year Forbes named Ms. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf 70th on its list of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.”
