Ellen Johnson Sirleaf

Ms. Sirleaf is the first woman to be elected as president of an African state, making her the 24^th President of Liberia. Prior to this, the economist and politician progressed from being the Assistant Minister of Finance to the Minister of Finance in Liberia. Ms. Sirleaf is also a Nobel Peace Prize recipient for her nonviolent work for women’s rights. Last year Forbes named Ms. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf 70^th on its list of “The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.”
