According to a recent piece published by Buffalo News, famed New York Yankee Derek Jeter showed some interest in purchasing the NFL’s Buffalo Bills when the team went up for sale a year ago. Jeter has been very vocal in the past stating that he some day aspires to own a pro sports franchise, be it baseball or any other sport.

Two sources have informed me that Jeter, while playing his farewell season with the Yankees, explored purchasing the Bills when they were for sale last year.

Uncertain is whether Jeter wanted to lead a group or be a minority partner. But given the Bills eventual, record-breaking sale price of $1.4 billion, he likely would have needed to settle for shareholder status.

Some prognosticators have worried if a team’s legacy and brand image would play a factor in his interest. Jeter’s overall image centers around winning and a glitzy off the field lifestyles two things that are the antithesis of Buffalo sports.
