This edition of Hood Health 101 goes into the benefits of raw honey.
Singing… Honey oh oh oh you so sweet in my Erykah Badu voice!! Raw unpasteurized honey is incredibly beneficial because of its medicinal uses and nutritional content. In addition to being taken internally it can also be taken externally. Honey comes in either a liquid or a semi-solid state and most of the honey sold here within the United States is in a liquid form. Raw honey has anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitic properties.
Medicinal Benefits
- Used to treat and/or prevent anemia
- Increases calcium absorption
- Fights colds
- Fights respiratory infections
- Can help with healing gastrointestinal ulcers
- Incredibly effective when used internally against parasites and bacteria
- Has a mild laxative effect that can assist with constipation
- Helps to naturally boost energy
- Draws out poisons from stings, infected wounds, and bites
- Topically, honey speeds the healing process of tissues damaged by trauma or infection
Honey can also be very beneficial when it comes to your skin care regimen. It is both great for assisting with dry skin by sealing in moisture, and stimulating good circulation. It also helps with treating acne and assists you in having glowing soft skin. You can use raw honey as a face mask by strategically placing the honey on blemishes or using it as a face wash.
According to Natural News, research shows that,
Honey has performed better than antibiotics in treatments for stomach ulcers, gangrene, surgical wound infections, surgical incisions and the protection of skin grafts, corneas, blood vessels and bones during storage and shipment.
Clinical observations along with experimental trials completed by Dr. Peter Molan a professor of biochemistry at Waikato University established that honey painlessly removed pus, scabs and dead tissue from wounds and stimulates new tissue growth. Dr. Molan thinks that people should look at honey as a viable option initially for their therapy verses using it as a last option. I personally use raw honey for so many options due to its incredibly versatile applications. The next time that you find yourself in need of medical care or want to switch up your skin care regimen take another look at honey to see just how effective it can be for you.
