Monday night, at Red Stix NYC, Spike Lee held a beautiful media dinner to announce his upcoming movie Da Sweet Blood Of Jesus, which is in theaters and on iTunes this week, on February 13th.  (That’s tomorrow!)  If you’re extra eager to watch it then we have the Vimeo link as well.  Of course, The Source was there in full force!

This movie is a very interesting one because it was originally funded through Kickstarter, having raised over $1.4 million, and is the first of Lee’s movies that was funded this way. It was originally released at the American Black Film Festival in June of 2014.

Da Sweet Blood of Jesus is a romantic horror comedy, which Spike Lee describes as being about, “Human beings who are addicted to blood. Funny, sexy, and bloody. A new kind of love story, and not a remake of ‘Blacula.'”

Some have referred to the movie as a remake because of a shot for shot scene used from the movie Gangja and Hess, which used vampires as an incredible metaphor for black assimilation, white cultural imperialism, and hypocrisies that exist within organized religion.
