Melo is the man with the plan.
New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has had a lackluster season to say the least. Having been plagued by nagging knee injuries and with the team sitting at a league worst 10-43, Melo believes his best course of action would be to chalk this season up as a loss, and have surgery done immediately so he can be back at 100% at the start of next seasons training camp. This may be the best long term decision as the Knicks are prepared to have a big off-season. With Amare Stoudemire‘s contract up at the end of the season, New York will have at least $30 Million in cap space to acquire new talent this summer. While speaking with ESPN New York, Anthony gave his thoughts on what lies ahead.
In regards to sitting out the rest of the season to have surgery done.
“That’s why if anything was to get done, I want to get it done right away so I’m not taking time and missing training camp and things like that,” Anthony said. “When I come back to training camp, I want to be sharp.”
Melo still plans on playing in this Sunday’s All-Star Game in front of his hometown crowd in New York City. Which would effectively make it his last of the 2014-2015 season.
“I don’t think the fans deserve [seeing me miss the game],” Anthony said via Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com. “They voted me in for a reason, so at least I can show them that I appreciate that by just participating in the game.”
The most intriguing portion of the interview came when Anthony eluded to possibly recruiting some of the star players currently in New York City for All-Star weekend to join the Knicks next season.
“I know what it takes to play in New York,” Anthony said. “I know who can handle New York and who can’t handle New York. … If I’m coming to you, that means I really want you to come over here and join forces with me.”
Anthony might have an uphill battle when it comes to recruiting. 10-43 record doesn’t sound to appealing. – @Rocko_CNK
