For those who do not remember, back in 2004, NBA veterans Karl Malone and Gary Payton joined the LA Lakers in hopes of winning an NBA Championship. The Lakers had just come off of winning three straight NBA Titles and appeared to be set on snagging a fourth. Amidst locker room differences, the very talented 2004 Lakers roster faltered to the Detroit Pistons in the Finals that year. One of the major points of contention was between Karl Malone and Kobe Bryant. Malone allegedly made a pass at Bryant’s wife Vanessa, to which further heightened the locker room drama.

Malone recently sat down with Dr. Marc Lamont Hill of Huffington Post and when the topic of Kobe Bryant came up, he was very direct in his sentiments.

“We had a little issue, If Kobe doesn’t like me today, that’s Kobe Bryant’s fault. It ain’t mine, it’s his problem. I don’t have a beef with nobody…. I dont’ feel no tension, but I’m a hunter, so I’m right there anyway. I’m old-school Western. Back in the day, when you had a beef, you didn’t go get guns and knives … we just go back in the back with no cameras and knuckle up. Get it over with.”

When Hill asked Malone whether he had offered Bryant the opportunity for a fair one, he didn’t mince words.

“It’s a standing offer,” Malone said. “Look, I don’t want no trouble. I don’t have a problem. People say whatever they want to say and that’s great. I’m 6-9, 272 [pounds] to be exact. I’m not hard to find. I don’t want no trouble. But if something got to go down, I’m not playing fair.”

Karl Malone is telling Kobe to pull up, but he has to let homie heal up from that injury first.@Rocko_CNK
