Last week, a full three days after the Billboard sales cycle began, Drake dropped a surprise mixtape, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, to iTunes, sending the internet, fans, and probably Birdman, into a frenzy. Most expected Aubrey to release his mixtape for free, but considering his issues with Cash Money Records, it’s been rumored that selling the project is a ploy to help expedite him meeting his contractual obligations. Either way, Drake’s selling power is on display once again.

It’s a considerable drop-off from his last first-week mark (Nothing Was The Same, 658,000), but considering the circumstances, 541,585, including streams, isn’t just impressive, it’s almost unbelievable, especially considering it isn’t an actual LP. Drake is still hard at work on his proper 4th album, Views From The 6, which will be out this year, and will reportedly be the final release needed to meet his 5-album deal with Birdman and Cash Money Records. What’s next after that?
