Roughly two years since the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin at the hands of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, the topic of police brutality and police shootings is still at the forefront of the American psyche. Sunday (February 22), The Baltimore Sun is reporting that a police officer has shot a man directly in front of a Trayvon Martin tribute mural located in the city’s west side.

Though unarmed Black men being shot by police has become commonplace in this society, each instance is no less tragic than the other. With a large mural of Trayvon Martin hovering in the background, this instance in Baltimore is another glaring reminder that there is plenty more progress needed in the battle against police brutality.
