LAPD have shot and killed a homeless man during an altercation in central Los Angeles, in an incident caught on video

Graphic footage caught by bystanders shows a violent struggle between the man and several officers in the city’s Skid Row area. Police say that three officers opened fire after the man tried to grab a gun from an officer, while witnesses say the dead man was known as “Africa”, and had been homeless after treatment for mental illness.

The LAPD said officers had been responding to reports of a robbery and had attempted to use a taser to subdue the suspect but he had “continued fighting and resisting” according to police. The incident is currently under investigation, and surveillance from surrounding buildings are being examined.

Hours after the latest shooting, #LAPDShooting was trending on Twitter in the US. According to LA Times Homicide Report there have been 16 LAPD fatal incidents, 252 people shot dead by police in city of Los Angeles in 2014, and 606 people killed by police in LA county since 2000.

    Granted the man being approached, detained, arrested may have felt he had no right to be approached, detained or arrested (with drawn out guns to boot) but that being the case, isn’t that an issue for the courts to decide and not a street brawl which so often leads to unintended consequences? Then again had the man on the ground been white, rich and powerful (not black, poor and homeless) would cops have come at him guns blazing, would they have exercised more restraint? Isn’t that the implied reality?

      Life is good when a white cop is shot and killed by a black man. I will be very proud when I shot and kill any white American man. We need to murder more white man every second. A matter of fact, black people should shoot and kill 1000 white men every half an hour. That’s 48000 white men kill by black men a day. Any time a black man attempts to shoot a white cop, he should shoot to kill him.
