The best part of rap is still the bars. No matter how many not-so-lyrical artists find both international and monetary success, or how many R&B artists find themselves conquering Hip-Hop beats–which, by the way, is in no way a bad thing–the lyrics that rappers today still meticulously string together to craft some of the genre’s most memorable verses is still the most awesome facet of Hip-Hop. After all, it’s an artists’ raps that can make or break their career. It was Lupe Fiasco‘s verse on Kanye West‘s “Touch The Sky” that made America realize Lupe is one of this generation’s greatest lyricists. Gunplay‘s verse on Kendrick Lamar‘s “Cartoons & Cereal” is credited by most as the reason Def Jam offered the Miami emcee a record deal.
