The most exciting time of the year of college basketball has arrived. The month of March is here which means college teams are transitioning to prepare for a cinderella run to a entry to this year’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. While teams are finishing up regular season games, the intensity, tenacity and competitiveness rises to a different level. No matter if your are playing Division I, II,III or JUCO basketball, the end of conference match-ups are always the toughest ones because they are games to be played to have bragging rights amongst one another to show who reign supreme amongst rival schools. The assumption can be proven by pointing to the rivalry of the Southern Jaguars women’s basketball team and the Texas Southern Tigers women’s basketball team.

Both squads are in the SWAC (SouthWestern Athletic Conference) conference and they were involved in a controversy ending that resulted in a double forfeit. With 12:37 left in the game, Southern was beating Texas Southern 51-49. While the game was in progress, a Texas Southern player attempted to make a important defensive play by taking a charge. Falling to the ground hard, the young lady popped back up and began to square up with the Southern player. Next, all hell broke loose as a massive team fight took place, having coaches, security officials and police officers rushing to the court to stop the melee. After the debacle cleared up, a total of 15 players (8 from Texas Southern & 7 from Southern) were suspended. To add more fuel to the fire of bad news, Texas Southern announced that there will not be competing in this year’s SWAC tournament. Check out the video below to see brawl that the women’s college basketball world in complete shock. Guess these two teams did introduced fans to their definition of “March Madness”.
