Ludacris explains his mention on 2014 Drake loosie

Late last year, Drake unleashed three new songs to his Soundcloud account, one of which ended up on his February mixtape, the other two were never to be heard from again, until now.

During his stop on The Breakfast Club, Ludacris, who is currently promoting his new album Ludaversal, was asked about a particular Drake line from one of the loosies, “How Bout Now.”

I had no money left from actin’, I was focused on the music
I used to always try and burn you CDs of my new shit
You be like “who’s this?” I be like “me, girl”
You be like “oh, word, true shit?”
Then ask if we could listen to Ludacris
Them car rides made me feel like I was losin’ it
Yeah, made me feel I ain’t have it like that
Or I was average like that

On the surface, it appeared to be a random mention, but Ludacris provided the added significance when he sat down to chat with Charlamagne, DJ Envy and Angela Yee.

His girl at the time–with all due respect–was probably doing a little bit more than that. But, it’s a true story, and I think that’s why he said that. People can respect this man for being very honest on records. It was a chick in Toronto, and at the time I didn’t even know that she was…I guess…I didn’t know what was going on. I didn’t know, and that’s what it comes down to.

So, though Mr. Ludaversal didn’t explicitly state it, there’s your insinuation that the Drake line was about a real life situation, in which a girl he was with at the time was, in fact, dealing with Ludacris in a similar way. You can watch the “How Bout Now” segment at about the 5-minute mark in the interview above.
