A complete breakdown of this week’s Hip-Hop sales
This week, two highly anticipated rap albums finally hit retailers. First is Wale’s critically-acclaimed The Album About Nothing, which will top the charts with 98,264 copies sold including streams. Next is Ludaversal, the ninth studio-album by the coverman of our current Spring 2015 issue, Ludacris. Luda sold 58,830 albums, (67,283 with streams), which is just enough to top Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly in its third week in stores. Lamar pushed an impressive 63,251 units including streams.
Last week it was announced J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive was the first feature-less rap album to go platinum since 1989. All that publicity likely helped Cole sell more copies of his album, which increased 10 percent in sales from last week. In fact, 2014 FHD is the only hip-hop album of the week to not drop in sales percentage. Suffering the biggest drop in sales is Action Bronson’s Mr. Wonderful, which sold 10,128, a decrease of 75 percent.
