All five ladies have had an amazing year thus far. These women have been extremely successful at creating amazing stories, and have earned their spots on the May cover of “The Game Changers” issue.

Shonda Rhimes is the woman behind some of the most hugely successful shows on ABC, which include Grey’s Antomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder. Debbie Allen has been in the entertainment business for decades as an actor and director, and continues to work behind the scenes of the mega hit show Empire.  Ava Duvernay directed the powerful critically acclaimed film Selma, based on the events that took place during the march on Selma. She is one of few female directors, and the only African American female feature film directors.  Issa Rae, who is relatively new to the scene, has gained popularity as the creator of web show The Awkward Black Girl.  Mara Brock-Akil, creator of  Girlfriends and Being Mary Jane, has been at the forefront of telling stories from the African American woman’s perspective for years.
