There are a few major secrets the film addresses including that Winehouse’s depression and anorexia began around the age of 15. Janis, Amy’s mother, remembers Winehouse telling her at 15 “I got this great diet….I eat what I want and then I bring it up,” and did not feel the need to seek medical attention. Secret two is that Winehouse dropped manager Nick Godwyn because she did not want to be affiliated with the Spice Girls, who were under the same management. Other shocking revelations include that her father did in fact tell her ‘You don’t have to go to rehab,’ as she famously sings in “Rehab,” “I ain’t got the time and if my daddy thinks I’m fine…” Her husband Blake Fielder-Civil was the first person to introduce her to crack cocaine after their honeymoon in Miami. Probably the most incriminating secret is that Winehouse’s father Mitchell contributed to her relapse by preventing her from getting any privacy when she tried to cleanse herself after moving to St. Lucia. Mitchell apparently showed up with a camera crew to film a reality show about being Amy’s dad which was less than convenient for her. “Amy” premiered this past Saturday at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released in theaters across America in July.
