The vigil which had been in place at the location of police shooting victim Mike Brown has been removed on his 19th birthday. The placement of the plaque that will replace the vigil has been rescheduled until a later date. The plan to install the permanent plaque in his memory at a nearby location has been organized by the Brown family.

The memorial was supposed to be placed in front of the Urban League in Ferguson, MO today in commemoration of Brown’s 19th Birthday, but due to the rain family and supporters were only able to move the vigil of cards, letters, stuffed animals and trinkets of condolence from the community. Brown’s father, Michael Brown Sr., joined Mayor James Knowles III on Wednesday in announcing the temporary memorial’s removal today, stating,

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about my son. We’re just really trying to move forward. It just needs to be moved.”
