The former NBA Champion and All-Star has a pretty definitive answer for the LBJ vs MJ debate
LeBron James has led the Cleveland Cavaliers back to the NBA Finals, a feat that was originally thought to be improbable when they had a losing record after 39 games, but one that became apparent throughout the playoffs, despite Cleveland’s struggles with injuries. Kevin Love, who the Cavs traded their #1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins for during the off-season, got lost for the playoffs during their opening round series with Boston, and Kyrie Irving hobbled throughout the last two match-ups with the Bulls and Hawks. Regardless, LeBron James is touted as the world’s best player for a reason, and here the Cavs are, prepping for June 4th’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Laimbeer took LeBron’s successful postseason one step further, and made it very clear that he believed Michael Jordan couldn’t have done the same.
Look at what LeBron has in the Finals right now. Could anybody else in the world have led this team of role players to the Finals right now? I don’t think so. Jordan could not have led this team to the Finals.
Well. Tell them how you really feel, Bill. That soundbite was taken from Laimbeer’s interview with Dan Patrick today, during which he also broke down his opinion analytically.
He [LeBron] can do more. Michael Jordan could score and make big shots and look spectacular at times with wild flying dunks, but LeBron can get you 18 rebounds, get you 15 assists, or score 50 if he wants to. The triple threat he poses is just phenomenal, and the size—he just physically dominates. It’s impressive.
Interesting. No doubt what LeBron’s done these playoffs has been spectacular, but are we forgetting that Jordan has never lost an NBA Finals series? LeBron has lost more than he’s won. It may take a little more time for this current #23 to be worthy of that argument, Bill.
