Weezy goes for the gusto with his latest deal with Kobalt

It was last December that Lil Wayne told the world on Twitter that he was ready to leave Cash Money Records. The YMCMB artist/owner ended up later filing a lawsuit against Cash money for royalties and record advances, both of which were unpaid. Now, Lil Wayne has taken another step by hiring Kobalt Neighbouring Rights to collect the global royalties on his behalf.

There are over 8,000 artists and songwriters as well as 500 publishing companies that are signed with Kobalt. Other than Lil Wayne different artists that are represented including Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, Calvin harris, Busta Rhymes, Kid Cudi, Noah “40” Shebib, and DJ Premier.

A quote on their site detailing how they work says,

 

 

“Kobalt’s powerful tracking system compares collection against detailed in-house expectations to ensure all income is correctly accounted. Kobalt develops these detailed expectations from 3rd party performance data, Territory expectations from Kobalt’s pre-distribution health check, as well as from the client’s income data. Combining these three data sources allows us to monitor collection and ensures all income is received.”
