South Carolina Officer Micheal Slager is charged in the death of Walter Scott
A grand jury has indicted Officer Michael Slager for the shooting death of Walter Scott. Solicitor Scarlett Wilson announced that the grand jury returned the murder indictment against Slager, during a news conference Monday morning.
Wilson faces up to 30 years to life in prison without parole if convicted, however a trial date has not yet been set.
Walter Scott was shot and killed on April 4 after he fled his vehicle during a traffic stop in North Charleston, SC.
A bystander took video footage of Slager shooting Scott in the back as he ran away. The video is what ultimately led to Slager’s arrest followed by a murder case.
The Scott family’s hope is that justice will be served. Not just in the Walter Scott case, but every case of this nature needs to be thoroughly examined. Police must be held accountable for their actions just as anyone else.
