You really can’t make this stuff up

If you’ve been off Twitter for the past 12 hours, boy do we have some news for you.

Rachel Dolezal, the president of the NAACP’s Spokane chapter, has been outed as a white woman, pretending to be Black for years. What’s worse? Her parents are the ones who revealed her secret, claiming that they “want people to know the truth.”

According to her parents, Dolezal has immersed herself in African-American culture for as long as they can remember. As an adolescent she was the sister to adopted Black siblings, attended a primarily African-American school in Mississippi and was part of a predominantly African-American community. She married a Black man, and divorced him in 2004, which is when her parents say things became different for their daughter, including her physical appearance.

Rachel has wanted to be somebody she’s not. She’s chosen not to just be herself but to represent herself as an African American woman or a biracial person. And that’s simply not true. -Ruthanne Dolezal, Rachel’s mother.

Dolezal initially came under scrutiny when a hate letter came to the Spokane NAACP’s mailbox, prompting the investigation that has led to Dolezal’s parents’ comments.

Naturally, social media has had an absolute blast with these findings.
