So folks, what have we learned in the past couple of days in sports? One of them has to be that any given moment that presents itself can be a major momentum builder or career defining scenario that can elevate an athlete’s status from just your average joe to a walking icon. The debate in the barber shops will forever go on. Is Michael Jordan the greatest of all time? Is LeBron James the greatest of all time? Only time will tell, but until then, it’s only right fans give credit when credit is due. You can hate him, but James is having the most important, dominant and most stellar NBA Finals performance in recent history. The numbers he’s putting up are proof that for any true basketball enthusiasts who are LeBron fans out there who was skeptical of throwing his name into the “great debate”, can finally be taken seriously due to the dominance he’s displaying on the court. The same can go for Serena Williams. Once a major underdog who was hidden in the shadows of sister Venus in the early stages of her career, Serena is in the position to be the all time great in females tennis. A player who is in her own class, Serena introduces the tennis fans of the aspect of strong beautiful black female athletes who knows how to consistently dominate in world class form. Superstars athletes like those are chosen for a reason and that is to raise the bar of how we play and dominate the game. Chi-town’s own Common said it best in his hit song “Blue Sky“, “This is my inception, I’m writing my dreams/ Immortal view of a star doing what I’m born to do.” Today superstars the sports universe praise today are just a different hungry breed of individuals who are just plays, hits, possessions away from becoming a walking immortal icon.
