According the to the Associate Press, Sharper’s guilty plea was for a drug-and-sexual-assault case, which means he’s completing a series of pleas in four states that will see him serve at least nine years in prison. Sharper has also been convicted of rape chargers in Arizona and California, as well as an attempted sexual assault  in Nevada.  Ramon Antonio Vagas of The New Orleans Advocate covered the meaning of Sharper signing a “global deal.”

The plea in Herman’s courtroom marked the last of five in a “global” deal resolving the criminal charges against Sharper, 39, without requiring trials in four separate states. Herman tentatively set an Aug. 21 date in her courtroom to sign off on the agreed-upon sentence in exchange for his pleas in the various jurisdictions, but she said she would most likely delay imposing the sentence until the trials of two co-defendants in the case are held.”

Sharper was able to receive this type of deal because of his cooperation. When asked if he was truly guilty of the charges that were held against him, Sharper kept it very simple.

Sharper was first arrested for rape in January of 2014 in Los Angeles and has been in jail since February of that year.   On March 23, Sharper pleaded guilty to sexual assault in Arizona and no contest in California. He was sentenced to nine years in Arizona and is expected to draw a nine-year sentence when sentenced in California in July.

Sharper was selected to six All-Pro teams with the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and New Orleans Saints, where he was able to win his only Super Bowl title in 2010.
