Matthew Lane Durham traveled to Kenya disguising his intent as a case of “doing good” in Africa, when in actuality Kenyan officials say he was brutally raping at least ten orphans between April 30th and June 17th.

Durham is accused of raping the orphans he was supposed to be helping as a volunteer at the Upendo Children’s Home in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. This disturbing ordeal began when a worker caught Durham in bed with a child. Durham has pleaded not guilty to 17 charges including aggravated sexual abuse and engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places.

Several of Durham’s young victims were brought to Oklahoma to testify about the rapes endured under Durham’s care. As if losing their parents and being sexually assaulted isn’t enough, Durham’s attorney is scheduled to cross examine the children this week. A college student who was on the Kenyan mission with Durham testified that Durham told her he participated in a “bed wetting program”, where he would take the kids to the bathroom in the middle of the night and admitted to raping a young girl repeatedly on one bathroom break. Despite pleading not guilty, a written confession and videotaped confession by Durham to Kenyan officials was entered as evidence in the case. Durham confessed in detail about raping the children. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
