Tidal has had several issues upon its relaunch, mainly due to bad press concerning their star-studded opening ceremony, but they’ve got a much larger issue to deal with. Their interim CEO, Peter Tonsta, who stepped in after Andy Chen stepped down in April, has officially left his position. A Tidal official had this to say about the sudden departure:

We are thankful to Peter for stepping in as interim CEO and wish him the best for the future.

The move will surely raise eyebrows around the industry, especially considering in a week, Apple Music will be launching, and they’ve already got support from big names similar to those that stood in New York City in March as Alicia Keys announced Tidal’s relaunch: Drake, Pharrell and more recently, Taylor Swift. Swift’s support may be Apple Music’s biggest notch under its belt, considering she has spoken out on her disagreement with several streaming companies’ royalty structures, most notably, Spotify.
