As people are try to come to terms with a man entering Emanuel A.M.E. Church in South Carolina and killing 9 people, one politician is blaming the victims for their demise. According to NY Daily News, State Representative Bill Chumley says that the nine victims should have done more to stop gunman Dylann Roof.
In the interview with CNN reporter Drew Griffin, Chumley says that the victims could have put up more than a fight to stop Roof.
“These people sat in there and waited their turn to be shot,” Chumley continued, “That’s sad … that somebody in there with the means of self-defense could have stopped this. And we’d have less funerals than we’re having,”
As Chumley continued with his ignorant comments about the massacre, Griffin, who appeared to be shocked with the comments, stepped in and asked Chumley how could the victims stop Roof from shooting them.
“I don’t know what the answer was,” Chumley said. “I know it’s really horrible for nine people to be shot. And I understand he reloaded his gun during in the process. That’s upsetting.”
