On Friday, a divided Supreme Court ruled that states can not ban same-sex marriage. This in turn established a new civil right and way that states handle gay rights. This decision in turn has become one of the most controversial topics of our age.

In a statement according to CNN, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote on behalf of the four liberal justices:

No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than they once were.”

If you much like myself are in the bracket of many Americans, no matter what your sexual orientation is, you have a view about today’s decision. This has been a problem going on for a very long time and for now everyone has an equal rights to marriage. The U.S. is now the 21st country to legalize same-sex marriage worldwide.

Reports from CNN state that after the ruling, hundreds of same-sex couples flooded the court waving their gay-pride flags in the air in celebration of this remarkable moment in history. This had to be an emotional moment for all who were there in attendance. It not only gives the rights for those who didn’t have them once before, but it also is the opening to a new door for the U.S and it’s culture as a whole.
