Her hashtag #KyeBreakTheInternet helped this prom dress go viral!
Kyemah Mcentyre made her dreams come true after showcasing her custom made prom grown on IG. Soon after it caught the eye of thousands, Power’s own Naturi Naughton wanted one for herself, and was later seen modeling a dress by Mcentyre at the BET Awards. Naughton found an instant connection with the young artist when she learned they were both from East Orange, NJ.
Mcentyre agreed to take on the project when Naturi reached, but she was also a little nervous. “It was my second design,” Mcentyre tells Cosmopolitan.com. She took notes by phone — Naughton wanted a mermaid dress in an African “Angelina” print with a halter that showed off her cleavage — and sketched three designs.
At the BET Awards, the responses to the dress were immediate and overwhelmingly positive. “I can’t even get over how much of a queen I felt walking onto the carpet,” Naughton says. “The dress was the talk of the night.”
After such an official debut of her new collection, this recent high school grad is on her way to a successful career as a celebrity designer!
